Meet Frank Morale. Frank and his son, Anthony, run Anthony John’s Pizzeria in North Branford, Connecticut. Frank started making pizza when at the ripe age of 13 in Brooklyn, New York and has made every single pizza pie at Anthony John’s since opening in May of 2010. No joke; this is some of the best [...]
A picture story unveiled from the archives: The annual Lobster Clambake, a fundraiser headed by the Branford Chamber of Commerce, is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the Summer. Maine-imported lobsters met their fate with a dinner plate as patrons handed in their “ticky” for their “dinny.” What’s interesting about these ground dwellers [...]
Chamard Vineyards is hidden just perpendicular to the main road in Clinton, Connecticut. Chris and I discovered this place while his family paid a visit from Texas with their fifth wheel. Stomp-N-Crush, the newest and best beer & wine supply to hit my locale, held an all-grain brewing session just outside Chamard’s main building made [...]
Seven hours of cooking, being on your feet and sneaking a picture in here and there was never so much fun. The day began by plopping our apple-stuffed, bacon-slathered turkey into the oven at 325° for three and a half hours. Took it out to cool for roughly twenty-five minutes. Chris got to it and [...]
The Community Dining Room is a wonderful, privately-run organization that provides sustenance to the hungry and hunger awareness to the community. For 25 years, they have been feeding many of the grumbling tummies and offering companionship to South Central Connecticut residents. Daily hot meals, frozen dinner delivery, and holiday feasts are just a few of [...]
The Essex Rotary Club held their 52nd Annual Shad Bake last weekend – just another one of those simply delicious New England traditions. The Rotarians, whom take great pride in their shad, provided me with a complete “shaducation” detailing the process from start to finish. Shad is similar to that of salmon – a freshwater [...]
It’s an absolute fact that my Zia e Zio are the coolest people I know – and we’re blood relatives so that’s just amazing. They live in a small town in Italy called Paluello down the road from my cousins who abide in a lovely little villa since the 70s. This was the first time [...]
Back in May, Chris and I took our first road trip up North to the lovely land of Canada. We dined at a most delightful Jamaican restaurant off Queen Street West in Toronto. Our waiter was awesome and made us succulent midday alcoholic beverages on the spot. We wanted juice; he made it happen.
