East Rock stands at a staggering 366 feet and features a gargantuan 112-foot pillar known as the “Soldiers and Sailors Monument.” Atop on a clear day, one could see for miles supposedly stretching as far as four or five surrounding states. I have yet to bear witness.
The weather-beaten copper obelisk commemorates New Haven history by paying homage to courageous residents whose lives perished during the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, the Mexican War and the Civil War. Attached are some older images taken of the monument up close.

just wonderful impressive vertical depth very cool photo
It’s an intriguing building, the kind of place to which I’d keep returning to photograph. I really like the main picture – it seems to emanate a friendliness and the warmth of a summers day. Nicely composed and high key interpretation.
I agree with George. It would be a place to revisit over and over again. Interestingly, Jess, I have never heard of it…nor do I think I’ve seen a picture of it before now!
We like this place as well, but to us the main photo is not warm and welcoming, but rather stark and un-approachable. Interesting to read others comments and have a very different interpretation of the mood.
very nice framing. All the clouds and sky above makes me think about the vast space (miles and miles) you could see in a clear day. beautiful!
Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!
The way your images are taken are just inspiring. I work as a Corporate Photographer and in my field, I shoot most indoors. Thanks for sharing.
Nice shot…
What a beautiful photo … I love it!!!!
Can you print me out an 8.5 X 11 copy …. I’d like to hang it in my office … along with my other Jessica photo collection. Love, the mother bear
