Heirloom Seeds

Barberry Hill Farm is a local, family-owned farmstead in Madison that was established in 1909. One of the owners, Kingsley Goddard, showed me through their greenhouse, which is chock stock of 40,000 varieties of plants, including an prided, eclectic collection of heirloom seeds, to-be fresh cut flowers and many more things I couldn’t remember if I tried. Each of those trays can hold either 410 or 512 plants. In this moderately-sized greenhouse, a whole season of produce is cultivated.

  7. My brother-in-law in Michigan is a school teacher and lives on a farm, Jess. He would LOVE buying some heirloom seeds there (and perhaps already has?). This is totally up his alley. :)

  9. I love this time of the year, now I don’t garden extensively anymore and the rising sap inspires me to photography rather more than photosynthesis! But I love horticultural pics and the hands are just wonderful

  10. That’s a proper gardener’s hand. Amazing how many plants there are in this tray. I like gardening.

By the way, great composition and use of dof.
